Cat of Prey
sneaking through the grass
we are on our hunt
the weed in nature's hair
stroking round our legs
dripping wet in fresh dew
searching for a world we've formed for us
the sleepy groaning limbs
muttering advice
to guide us through the woods
into the burrow
we've built for ourselves
the paths are sliding
through the gaps inside your head
through my glacial eyes
spiders in spotlight
build a cocoon around my head
and cobwebs to veil your pitchblack eyes
streets, lights, phone cells
under skeletons of steel
glowing dark in spider-skies
we're straying cats
only we know this is real
surrounding us the wired eyes
through the last wound
ripped open in the metal walls
of the big tin the world's existing in
we enter the wide wilderness outside
there's our home in the hay
there's the child, our prey
